Day 4: Representation Matters

Fun Fact
Only 5% of active physicians identified as Black in 2018, according to the Association of American Medical Colleges. Most active physicians, according to the AAMC, are white and male. Beyond coveted roles in health care like physicians or surgeons, there are also racial disparities in other medical disciplines, like medical research. However, the AAMC recently reported an increase in the percentage of first-year medical students who are Black and Latinx, with the number of Black first-year students increasing more than 20% in 2021.

In This Session
Diverse representation in the medical field is important more than ever as the coronavirus pandemic has disproportionately impacted Black communities. Inspiring the next generation of Health Care Workers will require a greater understanding of the various medical sectors.
